Sonnet 3
A stone he casts into the water’s jaws
You turn involuntar’ly at the sound
And discarding your clothing all around
You go without a backward glance or pause
My trust: the broken surface of the lake
My love: abandoned for but a reflex
Your loyalty: cast to the side for sex
What then can satiate me in the wake?
The ripples in me won’t subside and yet
Despite the pain, I’ve not abandoned these
The virtues of trust, love, and loyalty
So now I hope with time I can forget
For if our sadness misers of us makes
We forfeit all the joy that sadness takes
