Leaving Home
A vicious apprehension in my belly starts to rise
Distract myself with thoughts to hide from something deep inside
Consider all the things I should have said the night before
Whatever takes my mind away from walking out the door
The Great Unknown they call it but to me the great’s unknown
For what could be so great that takes a person from their home
My body makes the journey but my mind must recognize
It’s tethered to the stable rock I see through child’s eyes
But insight gained from coming age and wisdom says to me
To grow’s to overcome reliance on security
And with the waning day I feel my journey has begun
I cross the starting line and ride into the setting sun
