Sonnet 14
A game, a nap, a swim, a joy, a laugh
These things we share by twig and pine and fir
One thousand words described by photograph
Relate the memories we spend with Her
She offers freshen’d scent and temper’d ray
And gives us life and livelihood and home
Such gifts our snapshot lifetimes can’t convey
With ev’ry word of ev’ry single poem
Thus while our lives in nature have occurr’d
They cannot hope to tell the fullest tale
A picture only says a thousand words
And words the simplest memory may fail
We’ve naught to do but take our meager time
To with our lives absorb this world sublime
